Crabtree Open Studio Weekend with Luthier Lachlan Maclennan as part of the Huon Valley Studio Arts Trail…

The Elm & the Raven will be opening her Huon Valley studio with luthier Lachlan MacLennan as part of the Huon Valley Studio Art Trail. Located at Crabtree, our studios are listed at Number1 on the trail map. For details and directions, download the map in the link below. There will be live painting and woodworking, opportunities to talk directly with us as artists and makers, gaining insights into how the work is made.

An amazing opportunity to see artists at work in Southern Tasmania.  A rare, two-day event, local artists will open their doors to the public, offering an insight to their practice and unique access their work.

Emma is a photographer, digital artist and painter who will be sharing work in a variation of mediums, including previously unseen creations.

Lachlan is a luthier, working on mandolins and banjos with a background in all kinds of carpentry and a specialist in timber boatbuilding.

It’s a beautiful time of year to visit the Huon Valley, and with so many wonderful artists participating, fantastic local food and drink, it’s a great reason to   head south for the weekend.

Lachlan MacLennan Luthier

With 2 mandolins and a custom banjo available for viewing during the studio trail, Lachlan will be talking visitors through his process, including concepts of steam bending, instrument making and how he transformed from large scale wooden boat building to fine detail musical instrument making.

The finished instruments will be available for sale and Lachlan can be commissioned to create custom designs upon request.

Luthier Lachlan MacLennan located in Tasmania will be featuring customer mandolins with the Elm & the Raven as part of the Huon Valley Studio Trail.
