Australian Natives | Illustrative Wildlife Prints

The charm and character of Australian fauna

Australian Native Open Editions

This growing collection of illustrative wildlife prints, celebrates the quiet charm and distinctive spirit of Australian native species through a delicate fusion of photography and digital illustration.

What began as part of a project in support of Tasmania’s threatened species through A Wild Island Tasmania initiative—has since grown into an idea to represent a broader, evolving tribute to Australian native wildlife through art.

Each piece begins with a photograph, captured by the artist, before being developed into a composite image using hand-drawn illustration, textural overlays, and a soft, painterly palette. The results are charming and playful creations suitable for all ages.

The first completed works in this range depicts our eastern quolls and wedged tail eagles, with more native Australian flora and fauna in the wings. The collection reflects a natural world often seen but rarely noticed with such gentleness. Wildlife art that evokes the emotional experience of these encounters.

As the collection expands, so too does its scope. While early works focused on species under threat, future pieces will include a more diverse range of Australian flora and fauna, chosen intuitively—drawn by colour, form, emotion, or movement. From botanical vignettes to characterful creatures, each new piece of Australian native wildlife art will continue the series’ quiet exploration of beauty and place.

There’s a natural synergy between the illustrative style and the mood of the subject matter. Australian wildlife can be striking, but here it is portrayed with gentleness and grace—less about drama and more about intimacy. In a time where so much of our environment is under pressure, these artworks offer a way to pause and appreciate the softness still present in our world.

These prints also lend themselves beautifully to children’s spaces, offering an alternative to mass-produced decor. For those seeking wildlife nursery prints that reflect Australia’s unique natural heritage, this collection provides a considered, artful option.

Importantly, these artworks are not created in haste or by formula—they are developed slowly, in conversation with the subject, allowing space for each creature and plant to suggest its own tone and story. Some emerge from time spent in the bush, others from quiet research or moments of spontaneous inspiration.

Also available in square greeting card format.
